Oakwood Court

Transformation of Former Victorian School

Langley Lodge Developments acquired the disused Croft School from Durham County Council. The 1450 sqm site underwent conversion into four bespoke spacious homes, featuring four and five bedrooms.

The Oakwood Court project involved the conversion and development of a former school into modern residential homes. This transformation preserved the building’s historical significance while repurposing it to meet contemporary living standards.

Completed in 2024, the project focused on addressing the need for quality housing within a unique architectural context. Our team provided full planning, development, and construction services, ensuring a seamless transition from an educational facility to a residential community. The result is a distinctive and desirable living space that harmoniously blends historical charm with modern amenities.

The transformation of this historic school into modern family homes is a bespoke endeavour, preserving the building’s original charm and features, such as stone fireplaces and beams, while introducing contemporary elements like open-plan vaulted ceilings. Bringing this project to fruition has been immensely rewarding. The conversion work, executed to the highest standards underscores our commitment to delivering excellence.

The properties were marketed by Bradley Hall, Durham.

Cllr James Rowlandson, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for resources, investment and assets, said: “We are pleased to see this site coming back into use thanks to funding from the North East Combined Authority’s North East Property Fund. We look forward to the new use benefitting both the local community and those who will live in the new properties.”

The fund managed by FW Capital recently reached the investment milestone of £50 million, providing funding to help kickstart the development of small-scale property schemes throughout the region.
